Ted Daniels studied at the Vakschool in Schoonhoven, the distinguished Technical Institute for gold- and silversmiths, in Holland.
He also worked for an architectural metalsmith before emigrating in 1980 with his wife Ita to New Zealand, where they settled in the university city of Dunedin.
Here he started Artifact in 1981.
They have two daughters.
In 1982 Ted started experimenting with titanium.
There was very little information available about titanium used in Jewellery at the time. He was very excited about this metal and its possibilities. He developed a collection of jewellery with beautiful rainbow colours, achieved by oxidation.
In 1996 he started developing a ring collection because he wanted a change of direction and another challenge.
In 1998 Heidi became part of the team. She is trained in all aspects of jewellery manufacture. She is responsible for the day to day running of the workshop.
Artifact has since created a huge selection of beautiful titanium rings, combining this metal with silver, gold, palladium, platinum, mokume gane, damascus and gem stones.
Each seamless ring is individually made with care to your specifications in our workshop.
