The coast of Southern California is where I grew up. Light has its own life over the ocean and in the coastal towns. Laguna Beach - in my youth - was a very artsy, crafty wee town, right on the coast. Lots of pelicans and bright shabby wooden houses. There are dunes and beach, water and beautiful skies towards the evening. Not every night, and not always the same. But in my mind, this is how I remember the view.
The basis for the pendant are numerous holographic, duochrome and glitter colours, offering level upon level of shading. Depending on the lighting and how the head is held, the pendant offers different levels of colour: from the yellow maize of the dunes through the hills in purple and green to a starry sky in blues and greys. The moon is just on the rise. One pendant, a multitude of different colours. A wee landscape painting. Stunning.
Everything is hand drawn. Both the hills and sky were gradient painted over many many hours to achieve the melting in to each other. I wanted to create a watercolour effect.
The high quality chain is perfect with the earthy look of the pendant. The bail and chain are bronze. Selected hand beading with a koru charm.
The glass size is 1" square (2.5cm), the chain is 45cm.
